ECO ENVIRONMENTS NAMED NORTH WEST BUSINESS OF THE YEAR
Judges praise diversification following Government tariff cuts
One of the UK’s leading renewable energy companies has been named North West Business of the Year.
Eco Environments beat off competition from across the region to land the title in the British Chambers of Commerce Awards 2012. The company will find out in November if it has also won the National Business of the Year title.
It is the second honour in just a few days for the Liverpool-based firm, whose director Mark Buchanan received the Institute of Directors North West Director of the Year for Leadership in Corporate Responsibility.
The Chamber of Commerce judges were particularly impressed by Eco Environments’ diversification strategy which enabled it to increase turnover from £1.4m to £6.4m during the last financial year.
The Government’s decision to drastically cut the feed-in-tariff incentives available to homeowners interested in domestic solar PV installations meant the company had to refocus on winning larger renewable energy and energy efficiency commercial projects.
This culminated in major project wins including the largest on-roof solar PV scheme – a 250kWp system at temperature controlled storage and distribution specialist Cold Move in Cheshire – and a multiple technologies scheme at Wigan-based Armstrong Point, the UK’s first zero-energy cost business park.
Other notable project wins have included solar PV installations at hospitals in Yorkshire, Essex and Derbyshire and several schools across the North of England and Wales as well as a number of energy efficient lighting installations for high energy using businesses.
Martyn Pellew, President of the British Chambers of Commerce, said: “There has never been a more important time for businesses to showcase the amazing work they are doing on a day-to-day basis and the Chamber awards provide the perfect platform for them to do just that.”
David Hunt, a director with Eco Environments, said: “Winning the North West Business of the Year award is not only a fantastic honour but also vindication for the huge amount of effort made by everyone in the business to ensure that we are one of the few companies in the industry to genuinely offer the complete range of renewable energy and energy efficiency solutions to businesses and homeowners.
“A lot of businesses in our sector did not survive the Government’s controversial decision to drastically reduce the levels of feed-in-tariff incentives available to domestic customers, but from day one we have positioned Eco Environments as a long-term business offering multiple technologies.”
The company designs, installs and commissions technologies including solar PV, wind turbines, solar thermal, air source heat pumps and energy efficient lighting.
In addition to its head office in Liverpool, the firm has offices across the North of England, Midlands and North Wales.
The British Chambers of Commerce Awards is committed to finding the best businesses in Britain through a series of regional heats followed by a National Final, to be held at London’s Guildhall on November 29.
