Teesside businesses join forces to reduce emissions

Two established Teesside companies have been working together to reduce fuel costs and CO2 emissions.

Simon Bailes Peugeot, one of the region’s top eco-driving and fleet dealerships, has supplied Hartlepool-based Gus Robinson Developments with 10 eco-friendly Peugeot Bipper vans which help to reduce fuel consumption.

Gus Robinson Developments chose to work with Simon Bailes Peugeot as both businesses share similar company values, longstanding reputations and a commitment to their local communities.

Simon Bailes Peugeot operates an ethical trading policy focussing on its five core values of customers, honesty, people, standards and profit. The company’s commitment to ‘people’ means that it prefers to trade locally whenever possible to benefit local communities.

Fleet experts at Simon Bailes Peugeot in Stockton worked closely with managers at Gus Robinson Developments to understand their fleet requirements and identify the most effective solution.

Managers at Gus Robinson chose the Peugeot Bipper because it has low running and maintenance costs, as well as lower emissions thanks to the use of ‘Stop and Start’ technology. This means that, when stationery, the van automatically switches off its engine, saving on fuel by up to 15%.

Dan Robinson, company chairman at Gus Robinson Developments, said: “In line with our broader company strategy, these new vehicles further reflect our commitment to reducing the impact that all of our operations have on the environment. Over the past few years we have dramatically improved the management of our own carbon footprint and, as such, we are proud to already hold the British Standard for Environmental Management Standard. In reducing the emissions from our fleet of vehicles, we will once again take an enormous step forward in our ongoing commitment to be at the leading edge of environmental responsibility within the construction sector. Our new vehicles will significantly reduce both our carbon footprint and our running costs.”

Simon Bailes added: “Our fleet team worked with Gus Robinson Developments to assess exactly what was required to help them reduce their CO2 emissions in line with their environmental policy. It’s very encouraging to see high profile companies, like them, being so pro-active in their stance towards eco-driving and it was great to work with their team on finding the perfect solution which will offer reductions in both fuel consumption and harmful emissions.”

Simon Bailes Peugeot, which has dealerships in Stockton, Northallerton and Guisborough, is one of the North East’s most prominent car dealerships in the North East’s Plugged-in Places campaign, which is committed to the development of an electric vehicle charging infrastructure. The company is at the forefront of Peugeot’s global eco-driving developments and is one of their leading dealerships for the sales of the iOn- Peugeot’s fully-electric vehicle, the Hybrid4- the world’s first production diesel-hybrid vehicle and the Bipper van.
