Portland Consulting in the running for national award

Portland Consulting Engineers (Portland), a specialist in civil and structural engineering design, has announced it has been shortlisted for a record number of national industry awards for the innovative service it provides, as well as key projects.

Portland has been shortlisted for ‘Consulting Engineer of the Year’ in the forthcoming annual Builder and Engineer Awards. These awards celebrate the best in UK construction, management and innovation. In addition, a significant project to Portland, The Ridings: Kibblesworth, a social housing scheme developed on behalf of Keepmoat Homes and Gateshead Housing Company, has been shortlisted for ’Infrastructure Project of the Year ’in the same ceremony.

Also, following on from success in the regional rounds of the RICS (Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors ) Renaissance Awards, Birtley Young People’s Club, a second project to benefit from Portland’s innovative approach to structural engineering, has made it through to the national finals of the prestigious RICS Awards to be held later this month at the Savoy Hotel, London.

Achieving the shortlist for such well regarded accolades, is a boost for all at Portland as director, Lee Barr, said:

“This is great news for the company. To be shortlisted for the national award of Consulting Engineer of the Year is a great achievement. Given the volume and standard of entries we feel very proud just to be shortlisted. Added to that the pleasure of knowing that some of the key projects we have recently been involved with have also been recognised as contenders for awards, in my opinion reflects well on our ability to deliver creative solutions for clients across a diverse range of sectors.

“On a personal note, I am doubly delighted that Birtley Young People’s Club has been singled out from other projects in the region. As a former amateur boxer I have been involved with the club for many years along with my brother Gary, a senior technician at Portland, who now coaches at the club and I appreciate the many benefits the club and its new facilities bring to the local community. “
