Care provider scoops top honours at awards night

Staff at the county’s leading independent care provider were celebrating today after scooping four awards at a glittering ceremony honouring the best carers in Shropshire.

Not-for-profit Coverage Care Services Limited, based in Shrewsbury, was named Care Business of the Year for companies with more than four sites, with three of its homes also picking up awards.

Organised by Shropshire Partners in Care, the event at the Telford International Centre celebrated the best practice and achievements of individuals, teams and providers responsible for looking after thousands of older and vulnerable people in the county.

Coverage Care, which operates 16 homes across Shropshire, also saw its Donnington-based Care at Home team recognised, with employee Lisa Marsh receiving the Domiciliary Care Carer of the Year award.

Chief executive of Coverage Care, David Coull, said: “We are thrilled to have been so successful at the Shropshire Care Awards, which recognised not only the hard work and dedication of our own staff but also the whole care sector in Shropshire.

“The commitment shown by our staff to the people we care for is something we see every day but we are delighted that their individual and team achievements have been publicly honoured in this way.

“Often carers are unsung heroes and the Shropshire Care Awards is a fantastic event which allows us all to thank them for their sensitivity in the way they deal with those they look after, and highlights the work being done in the social care sector.

“To be named Care Business of the Year is a great honour and the credit goes to all our staff, from those based at head office to the hundreds of carers working in our homes across the county.”

Woodcroft Care Home in Market Drayton scooped the top honour in the Team Award category and the company’s Barleyfield House in Shrewsbury won the Infection Prevention and Control Award.

Fairholme care home in Oswestry scooped the Healthy Eating Award. Coverage Care is currently building New Fairholme in the town, a new £6.9 million facility which will have 88 ensuite rooms for residential and nursing care.
