Warmer Winter for Teesside Homes
Families across Teesside could be enjoying warmer homes in time for winter thanks to the launch of a new region wide scheme.
Fuel poverty organisation GoWarm, which specialises in making homes more affordable to heat, is now offering free boiler replacements, heating system upgrades and insulation to eligible households across the region, including in Stockton, Hartlepool, Redcar and Middlesbrough.
In order to qualify for the new GoWarm Affordable Warmth scheme households in these areas must meet a strict set of criteria, including being in receipt of benefits such as child tax credit, income related ESA, income-based job seekers allowance, working tax credit or pension credit.
Those who are eligible will receive a package of free measures designed to make their homes warmer and reduce their fuel bills, which could include a boiler repair or replacement, a new full heating system with fuel switch and the installation of cavity wall insulation, loft insulation and draught proofing.
GoWarm Director, Karen Hindhaugh, said “With energy prices rising and temperatures dropping we know that many households across Teesside are feeling the pressure and are worried about staying warm this winter. We hope that the new GoWarm Affordable Warmth scheme will help alleviate some of this concern by offering free measures specifically to those who need them most.”
Since being established in 2008, GoWarm has helped more than 250,000 homes install measures to improve their energy efficiency, including more than 9000 properties across the North East.
This is the latest in a series of initiatives targeted at private homeowners on Teesside, with GoWarm also currently working in partnership with several councils on other large-scale schemes.
