Sunderland's Stadium of Light Confirms Bon Jovi Concert
Sunderland’s Stadium of Light is set to welcomeUSrock gods Bon Jovi in the summer of 2013, as another music spectacular comes to Wearside.
Bon Jovi will hit the road in 2013 to fill stadia and arenas worldwide with Bon Jovi: Because We Can – The Tour.
The band last performed in the north east in 1993 and will return to the region 20 years on from their first visit on June 13th2013.
Tickets for the show will go on sale at 9am, Friday 2ndNovember (see below for full details).
Gary Hutchinson, Sunderland AFC’s commercial director said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have been chosen as a venue for a tour of this magnitude. Bon Jovi is one of the world’s top live bands so to have them perform at the Stadium of Light is absolutely fantastic and we can’t wait to welcome them to the city.”
“The hard work and joined up approach of everyone involved in delivering these major events to the north east region has really paid off in recent years andSunderlandis now firmly cemented as one of the go-to venues for major world music tours.”
Cllr Paul Watson, Leader of Sunderland City Council, added: ““We’re delighted that once againSunderlandwill be playing host to a world class act. It builds upon the tremendous success of the last four years of concerts at the Stadium of Light, which have brought hundreds of thousands of people, and millions of pounds, into our city and our economy. The fact that major bands and artists continue to chooseSunderlandfor their concerts is proof of our ability to host major events, and will provide a fantastic boost for the city.”
And in an unprecedented move, prompted by the band themselves, ticket prices for the show will start at just £12.50. “The band insisted on ticket prices for the Because We Can Tour that enabled all to attend,” says UK Tour Promoter Rob Hallett, of AEG Live, “giving everyone the opportunity to witness the greatest rock n roll band in the world!
“Ordinary fans have been priced out of live music in recent years and we hope this goes some way toward redressing the balance. After all, rock n roll always was and always should be the music of the people. And that means everyone.”
Bon Jovi’s return to the road next year caps an incredible run which has secured the band’s status as the essential live rock band – having performed more than 2,700 concerts in over 50 countries to more than 35 million fans.
The latest tour will kick off in North America in February before travelling through Europe, the Far East, Africa, Latin America andAustralia.
Because We Can – The Tour will also debut brand new songs from the band’s latest album ‘What About Now’, due out in Spring 2013. Shows will of course also feature the band’s classic hits including the anthems “Livin’ on a Prayer,” “You Give Love a Bad Name,” “It’s My Life,” and many more.
