Darren Williams explains his journey to success

Bdaily spoke to Darren Williams, Founder and Managing Director of Buy Hair, ahead of the North East Expo on the 7th November, where he will be speaking. Darren has been in business for 11 years and will be sharing his experiences after starting out when he was 19.

He told Bdaily: “I left school and went straight into a job and then started up a business. I had no money, no university or college education and I went straight to running my own company which turned over £1.3m. So I started off at a young age and then learned as I went along.”

We asked Darren how he became involved in the North East expo.

“I got involved in the expo through NECC after I spoke at their annual general meeting. I got a really warm reception and they passed my name on to the organisers. It was brilliant to get an invite to come and speak at the event.”

Darren gave his advice and shared his experiences of starting up a business with little knowledge of the industry.

“I used to run loads of raves back in the early 2000s; we used to get a couple of thousand people a month, and that lasted for about five years. But I was born partially deaf and obviously the loud music didn’t do my hearing any favours. That just goes to prove that even someone with a disability can go on to achieve great stuff.

“My advice would be forget any shortcomings you may have and just go out there and learn how to do it. I’ve achieved everything I’ve done in all the five businesses I’ve ran without any prior experience in that business or industry. It’s about thinking of the big vision you want to achieve, and just working backwards from there.”
