Homeware company Wayfair see online sales spike
Online home furnishing company Wayfair has announced a sharp rise in sales and revenue in the last year.
Over the last 12 months, the firm has grown significantly after consolidating over 200 ecommerce homeware sites internationally.
In the UK, Wayfair has expanded operations and the company has experienced what it called “unprecedented levels of growth.”
The online retailer celebrated over £20m worth of gross sales and more the 100% growth year-on-year, after it won the largest round of venture capital funding in the U.S in the second quarter last year.
Funding of $165m enabled expansion into Germany, Australia and the United Kingdom, and has also been allocated to rebranding after 1,600 UK focused brands partnered with the company.
Wayfair also increased its number of employees in the UK and Ireland by 57%, to bring its total headcount to 1,100, while the company has plans to increase its workforce in 2013.
Chief Executive, Niraj Shah, said “Our commitments to providing the most technically-advanced platform coupled with investments in growing our in-house pool of talent is helping us reach our ultimate aim of becoming the number one brand in the UK for home items.”
The UK Director for Wayfair, Joel Stevenson, said: “As long as we continue to provide our customers with the best selection of home items and the easiest shopping experience online, we will no doubt continue to sustain high growth levels on a yearly basis.”
