Early Christmas present for wildlife charity
Northumberland Wildlife Trust is today celebrating receiving a fantastic early Christmas present from players of People’s Postcode Lottery.
For the wildlife charity has just received a whopping £76,000 from the charity lottery which supports a number of good causes in England with all money raised going to local charities.
To date, the Trust has received a staggering £394,940 which has had a huge impact on its conservation work, never more so than this year, as it has been able to lead the national campaigning against the proposed cull of buzzards and badgers.
At a time when charity funding is becoming harder to find, Trust Chief Executive Mike Pratt is delighted with the amount raised, he said: “This year, wildlife has faced more challenges than ever before and certainly since the wildlife trust movement was founded one hundred years ago - wildlife can’t stand up for itself, so if we don’t do it, who will? This is why the support from People’s Postcode Lottery is so important to us.”
Northumberland Wildlife Trust is a great believer in preserving wildlife for future generations to enjoy, so it was only fitting that two of the Trust’s young supporters, Sam Sheppard (15) and Georgina Moroney (11) received the cheque from Judie McCourt TFM Radio presenter and People’s Postcode Lottery Ambassador. Sam said: “I would like to think that when I am older, many species of wildlife will still be around for me to see rather than extinct and only available via images on the internet. I think it’s great that Northumberland Wildlife Trust is able to carry out its work without wondering how it is going to pay for it.”
