CIMA hosts World's Top Business Thinkers in Edinburgh

The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) hosted an afternoon conference ‘Kaplan and Norton: A Contemporary Performance’, and evening reception in Edinburgh on the 5th November as part of its wider CGMA (Chartered Global Management Accountant) Performance Management theme and celebrating the 20th anniversary of ‘The Balanced Scorecard’ performance management tool. Two of the world’s top business thinkers spoke at the event which updated UK organisations on how performance management must adapt to changes in the surrounding economy.

The conference, attended by over 150 organisations, was held on the 5th November at the Playfair Library, University of Edinburgh. There were three new pieces of research launched and presentations by Professor Robert Kaplan and Dr David Norton, who together created ‘The Balanced Scorecard’ which has grown to become the premier management tool for executing business strategy used around the world.

Professor Kaplan and Dr Norton were listed in 2011 at number 14 in the definitive listing of the world’s top 50 business thinkers and shard their latest thoughts on managing performance for the future.

In the evening, Professor Kaplan and Dr Norton attended a Balanced Scorecard anniversary celebration with 200 guests at the Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh, where they received CIMA Honorary Fellowships for their work in the industry.
