Lee Longlands unveils latest collection at flagship store

Leading Midlands retailer Lee Longlands has unveiled an exciting new collection to its range of high-quality furniture, with each statement piece inspired by the history of one of England’s most famous estates.

Lee Longlands has joined forces with Theodore Alexander, showcasing exquisite pieces from their Lexington Collection inspired by English heritage.

Each piece is designed with uncompromising quality for the Althorp Living History collection, drawing inspiration from treasures gathered during the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries at Althorp, which has been home to the Spencer family for more than 500 years.

One of the most aristocratic families in England, the Spencers have ties to Winston Churchill and the ancestors of George Washington, with the present Earl the brother of the late Diana, Princess of Wales.

Robert Lee, director at Lee Longlands, said: “The collection demonstrates quality craftsmanship and time-honoured techniques. The attention to detail is outstanding. Each piece has its own story to tell, some with designs dating back to 1780. Every single piece is embellished with a hard cast or painted crest that denotes its authenticity and connection to the Althorp Estate.

One of the flagship pieces in the collection, and available to view at the Birmingham Broad Street store, is the portly gentleman mahogany dressing chest with the shaped front made up of eleven drawers with fine lion’s mask brass handles. Each draw is inset with fabric and the feet with fabric velvet slippers bearing the Spencer crest.

Mr Lee added: “The portly gentleman, for example, is an iconic piece of furniture, beautifully crafted using traditional wood working techniques. Historical pieces such as this blend well with other ranges we have in store showcasing expertly skilled craftsmanship and top-notch design.”

Also in the Birmingham showroom is a Jupe table from the Lexington Collection. Originally patented by Robert Jupe in1835 and manufactured until 1840, original Jupe tables are extremely rare and have fetched up to $500,000 at auction.

The perfect reproduction in store is a mahogany extending dining table with swivel action top formed of eight spin -out triangular segments with additional leaves to expand the table top. This is raised on a substantial centre turned pillar and four turned columns on a concave platform base. The handmade internal capstan action and inset corners are of solid brass.
