Reading College Partners With REED Recruitment
Reading College, the Thames Valley’s leading Further and Higher Education College, today announced that it has joined forces with the REED NCFE Partnership, a specialist recruitment firm, to help connect students with vacancies offered by local employers.
Reading College’s partnership with REED is one of the first of its type in the country and will provide students completing college courses with a direct route into employment. The REED Jobfinder Service will be open to students to use from mid-October and REED will have a designated office on the Reading campus with specially set-up ‘Job Shops’. This new service supports the college’s mission and ethos of ‘our students go further,’ with targeted support to deliver work ready potential employees with the skills and mind-set in demand by local employers. The Reed Jobfinder service complements programmes such as Get that Job, which offer a range of vocational courses and support in areas such as CV writing and developing interview skills to help unemployed people develop new skills and qualifications to get back into work.
“At Reading College, our main goal is to ensure that our students go further and working together with REED we will be able to achieve this. We are passionate about providing the skills needed for employment and this new partnership will provide an even more direct transition for students from training and skills into the workplace,” comments Lesley Donoghue, Principal at Reading College.
The launch of the REED Jobfinder Service will offer Reading College’s students direct access to a range of ‘hidden vacancies’ not advertised anywhere else. A team of ‘Job Brokers’ will match students’ skills and qualifications with the vacancies on offer and help to prepare them for interviews. Students will also complete the REED NCFE Job Search and Interview Skills qualification, to help them develop the work-ready skills and confidence that employers are looking for. The purpose of this initiative is to help to meet the needs of the unemployed, as well as the needs of employers and the local economy and to connect employers with those seeking work.
“People want to gain skills and enjoy college; but they also want to forge a career after they finish their education. We are already establishing a reputation for securing large numbers of vacancies on a monthly basis and placing huge numbers of students in employment at the end of their courses. We hope and expect to repeat this success with Reading College and can’t wait to start work with the students,” concludes Nick Hughes, Senior Operations Manager at REED NCFE.
