Memorial lecture
A public lecture in memory of a former Director of Newcastle Social Services will be held at Northumbria University next week.
The lecture has been set up by Northumbria University and the Community Foundation to celebrate the work of Brian Roycroft who passed away ten years ago. Brian made a significant contribution to service development and delivery at Newcastle Council. On his retirement in 1993 a fund was established to provide grants to young people leaving care to help them make the transition to adult life.
In the lecture Professor Mike Stein, who enjoys an international reputation, will discuss his research into the problems and challenges faced by young people leaving foster and residential care as well as those living on the streets.
Professor Stein was involved in the preparation of the Leaving Care Guidance Act 1989 and the Children (Leaving Care) Act 2000.
The lecture will be held at Northumbria University’s City Campus East on Thursday, 29 November at 6pm. To reserve a place, please ring (0191) 215 6569 or email hs.hcesevents@northumbria.ac.uk
