John Lewis indicate Christmas promise
Sales figures for the week ending November 24 at John Lewis department stores would suggest consumers are beginning their Christmas shopping in earnest.
The retailer reported sales in excess of £100m for the week across its department stores, and say the results show promise for the Christmas period.
Online sales saw a growth of 34% on the same period last year and the John Lewis site achieved a record £9m sales on Black Friday alone.
Sales were strong in tablet computers, radios and coffee making machines, as well as in decorations and homeware.
John Lewis Head of Selling Operations, Maggie Porteous, said: “We are extremely pleased to have achieved such a strong uplift in sales. There is no doubt that Christmas sales are really beginning to take off and customers are appreciating that John Lewis is the destination of choice for preparing the home and finding innovative products as well as inspiring gift ideas.
“Our commitment to being Never Knowingly undersold means that we continue to match competitors’ prices, including during their promotional activity, ensuring that customers can be certain that they will be offered the best value and service at John Lewis.”
