Strong infrastructure orders prop up construction sector
Orders in the construction industry are on the rise, however levels in quarter three this year are the third lowest on record.
Figures released by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) showed a 5.4% increase in the third quarter compared with the previous three months.
Despite this positive trend, the statistics body warned that the total volume of orders in this period were, in fact, 6.7% lower than the same period in 2011.
The construction industry was bolstered by 43.8% order rises in infrastructure orders, and ONS said this sector had shown the strongest year-on-year rise than any other.
