Well travelled Louise sets up Acupuncture clinic

Louise Collyer (31) from Fenham has launched her very own classic acupuncture clinic, following an extensive period of travelling throughout south east Asia.

LC Acupuncture, based on Portland Road in Sandyford, is Louise’s first practice since completing a three year postgraduate degree in Acupuncture at the prestigious Northern College of Acupuncture in York. Acupuncture is an ancient system of medicine which uses fine needles to balance energy flow. It has been used in parts of Asia for more than 3000 years.

Even though Louise had always been interested in Chinese Medicine, inspiration for her new business venture came after she worked as an English teacher in Japan for two years and then travelled to Thailand and other parts of south east Asia, before returning to the UK overland. During that period, Louise immersed herself in Eastern cultures and explored the Japanese approach to natural health and also completed a Thai Massage course in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Upon returning to the UK in 2009, Louise had set her mind on a career in natural remedies and made the decision to study Acupuncture, with a goal to make the procedure more widely available to the community of Tyne and Wear.

The Portland Road Clinic, which Louise shares with renowned acupuncturist Feras Jerjis and massage practitioner Nick Hudis, comprises of three treatment areas where patients can relax in a quiet and calm environment.

Even through Louise is a general practitioner, she has a special interest in treating pain, both acute and chronic, reproductive health, digestive issues and insomnia. Louise has already changed the lives of many customers within just three months of launching her practice and is currently enhancing her skills by undertaking postgraduate training in specifically treating pain.

Louise Collyer commented: “After many years of travelling and studying, it feels very rewarding to return to the North East to practice Acupuncture in Newcastle and to be able to offer an alternative, yet natural, remedy to conditions which affect the daily lives of so many people.

“The feedback I’ve had from patients so far has been extremely positive and I want to continue learning more so I can offer further treatments in the future. In between my sessions at LC Acupuncture, I’m also pursuing a Diploma in Integrated Tissue Release which incorporates Chinese Medical Massage.”
