Carillion grow Canadian business
Wolverhampton-based construction and services firm Carillion has secured Canadian contracts worth some £525m.
The firm have picked up maintenance contracts with the Ministry of Transportation Ontario; Thunder Bay Area Maintenance; and The Alberta Ministry of Transportation.
Together, the contracts are spread over a 12 year period, and of the £525m value, some £475m relates to contract renewals.
Carillion Group Chief Executive, Richard Howson, said: “This further reinforces Carillion’s position as the largest provider of outsourced highways maintenance services in Canada and reflects our ability to provide high-quality cost-effective solutions for our customers, with whom we have developed strong long-term partnerships.”
In addition to the work, Carillion has acquired a 49% in Canadian support services firm, The Bouchier Group. The deal is worth £23.75m, payable over phased installments over the period to January 2014.
Carillion will then have the option to acquire a further 36% interest in the company after five years. The Bouchier Group provide services across road maintenance, infrastructure services and facilities management, primarily for customers in the oil sector.
Mr Howson added: “Acquiring this interest in The Bouchier Group is an important strategic step in the development of our support services business in Canada.
“The Bouchier Group has a successful track record in delivering high-quality services to a portfolio of blue chip customers. Its knowledge and skills complement our own and this will create significant new opportunities for us to grow our support services business in Canada through extending our services offering to new and existing customers.”
David Bouchier and Nicole Bourque-Bouchier will remain President and chief executive following the acquisition.
