European project comes to a close
An educational project that brought partners together from five different countries has been completed by Newcastle-based digital development agency, Enigma.
Project Smiley used the expertise of businesses and academics from across Europe to develop an interactive anti-bullying game for use in schools by children aged between 7 and 13.
The final conference in Ia?i, Romania, took place last week, where all the partners and schools involved gathered to sign off the project in its final stages, and to assess its impact within an educational environment.
Partners from Italy, Poland, Romania, Turkey and the UK collaborated on the scheme, and was backed by Dr. Augusto Gamuzzo’s research from the University of Catania.
He commented: “It is really difficult for us to sum up an experience of collaboration and friendship between five partners that worked very hard […] together in order to reach a common goal.
“Our project, that is your project as well, is part of the up building process of the EU from the bottom.
“It is true, SMILEY allows us to share knowledge and skills but, from a sociological point of view we would like to remember that everything was possible thank to the very talented SMILEY partners.”
Steve Grainger, managing director for Enigma Interactive, added: “This has been a fantastic project to work on.
“It’s put us in touch with new cultures, allowed us to share new ideas and new approaches with businesses and education institutions across Europe. We’ve been able to learn from each other.”
The EU funded initiative ended in December, and assessments will continue to establish whether the scheme can become a commercial success across Europe.
