Desco growth drives new director appointment
North East based MEP engineering consultancy Desco has marked the new year by welcoming a new director on to its board. The announcement of Neil Crowe’s promotion to Director comes as Desco continues to expand its design consultancy business into new geographical markets, having recently opened offices in London, Qatar and the Philippines. Neil, previously an Associate Director with the practice, will be responsible for running one of the company’s design teams based at the head office in Sunderland.
Neil’s team is currently delivering mechanical and electrical building services design on a wide variety of construction projects including, amongst others, the new police headquarters for Durham Constabulary and new state-of-the-art sports and performing arts facilities at Sunderland College.
Enthused at his new role and relishing the responsibilities it will bring, Neil said “I started with Desco in 2002 as an electrical engineer and during the last ten years, have seen the practice grow and develop into one of the best MEP design practices in the UK. I’m proud to be part of this successful business and look forward to playing my part in shaping its future.”
Neil’s appointment to the board will allow co-director David Fittis to move into a more strategic role, focusing on finance and business strategy as Desco continues to grow and develop. David explains the change in his responsibilities “the success of Desco has been built on the fundamental principle that our directors still retain hands on involvement in the delivery of projects. As the practice has developed and branched out into new regions, and both our client base and project portfolio broaden, we have maintained this approach, however we are also conscious of the increasing need to stay focused on financial and business management to help the company grow.”
In summing up the changes Paul Marshall, Desco’s Managing Director, said “Opening up the new offices has meant that the business has bucked the trend and seen some growth over the last twelve months which, in turn, generates opportunity for some of our ‘home grown’ talent, and Neil Crowe is an excellent example of this coming to fruition.
“Neil’s welcome addition to the board, together with David’s change in role, will help us continue to move the business forward, whilst ensuring we maintain our aim of providing a high quality professional consultancy service.”
