Nicholson?s drive forward technology programme

A management trainee who was taken on by a North East transport firm just a week after graduating has been promoted to a senior role.

Keisha Cox joined Billingham-based The Nicholson’s Group just eight months ago but after impressing bosses with her work ethic and forward thinking approach, she has been offered the position of Head of Project Development.

The job will involve the Teesside University graduate being seconded to the Nicholson’s Group’s transport division for the next 12 months to manage a series of projects designed to improve its performance, efficiency and profitability.

Keisha, who is 23 and lives in Middlesbrough, said: “Since joining Nicholson’s, I’ve been looking at ways that the company can be more environmentally friendly and therefore more efficient and this new role will involve me taking that to the next level.

“Some of the projects are technology focussed, so as a company we become more computer-savvy and less reliant on printing things out. For example, we’ve introduced a system which enables our customers to track online where their order is so they know when it will arrive, while another is looking to introduce online invoicing, again this removes the need for hard copy printing for both us and our customers.

“Ultimately it’s about the company becoming more efficient and profitable and I’m really excited that I’m tasked with leading these initiatives.”

Keisha graduated from Teesside University with a First Class Honours BSc in Business Systems Design and was offered her role via Teesside University’s Graduates for Business service.

She added: “I am so proud of myself for securing this role and my parents are incredibly proud too. To get any job only a week after graduating is an achievement in itself so to be appointed into this role after only eight months is fantastic.

“I absolutely love the job. It’s a great company to work for and the support I’ve had at all levels has been great. Because I enjoy it so much, it doesn’t feel like work. I actually enjoy getting up on a morning because I know I’m coming in here.”

Managing Director David Nicholson added: “Since Keisha has been with the business, she has worked incredibly hard and has proven she has the skills required to become a future business leader. She’s also a team player and that’s something as a company we highly regard.

“This is certainly going to be a challenging role but I know she will succeed and help Nicholson’s become more efficient and remain profitable.”
