Business tourism boost for 5* Rockliffe Hall

Rockliffe Hall in Hurworth, County Durham has received a top accolade for its work attracting business tourism to the North East of England.

The 5* resort won gold in the Business Tourism category of the North East England Tourism Awards, held on Thursday 31st January at The Sage in Gateshead.

The awards, organised by the NewcastleGateshead Initiative, are the biggest in the North East to celebrate the achievements of the region’s burgeoning tourist industry and honour venues, attractions, hotels and other service providers in the sector.

The business tourism category acknowledges the huge importance of the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions sector of the tourism industry.

Rockliffe Hall was singled out for its exceptional efforts in attracting business tourism from not only all over the UK, but as far afield as the Middle East and the USA. Recent corporate clients have included a delegation from Sabic, one of the world’s biggest chemical giants based in Saudi Arabia, mobile phone operator EE, the Premiership and Team GB and the US Ladies football team ahead of their Olympic campaigns in London.

As well as offering 61 luxury bedrooms, a world-class spa, a PGA-accredited Championship golf course and three restaurants- including the triple AA Rosette Kenny Atkinson at The Orangery, Rockliffe Hall has ten exclusive meeting rooms, free secretarial services and wifi, private surroundings and team-building activities.

Managing director, Nick Holmes, said: “We have an exceptionally dedicated team that works really hard to attract businesses to the North East. It can be difficult to encourage companies away from London but we are finally getting there as people realise we have superb transport links and a stunning region to explore.

“We’re very proud to get this accolade as there are so many great venues in the North East. It’s just very encouraging to see the tourism industry- especially business tourism- booming in our region.”
