Beauty Salon Team Qualifies For Cosmetic Procedures

The owners of a North East beauty salon have become the first in the region to qualify to carry out cosmetic procedures usually requiring medical treatment.

Sisters Paula and Fiona Vipond, who run the Park Grange Advanced Skin Clinic in Sunderland, have trained under Harley Street practitioners and alongside doctors and nurses to gain the prestigious qualifications.

And that means they are now able to deal with a range of conditions such as the removal of moles, milia (white hard skin lumps), blood spots and age spots among many other blemishes.

Both Paula and Fiona, who operate from their clinic at Grange Terrace, were able to undertake the training because of their years of experience and qualifications.

“You needed to already have a proven track record and already be qualified in advanced cosmetic procedures for electrolysis before you are even allowed on the course,” said Paula.

“We were the only non-medical people to do the training so we’re delighted to have passed and to now be able to carry out these procedures.”

Now the pair is also hoping that they can help people who have unsightly blemishes but can’t get them removed via their doctors because they are considered non-essential.

“There are a lot of people whose lives are being blighted by the fact that they have a skin blemish but they can’t get them removed through the NHS because it’s seen as cosmetic,” said Fiona.

“The only alternative is that they go privately and sometimes those costs can be prohibitive.”

She added, “we had one client who was quoted over a £1000 for a procedure we only charge £60 for and our system is less invasive as we don’t cut into the skin but cauterise it.”

The salon owners are now hoping that they can help anyone who has a blemish but has not been able to get it dealt with.

“We hope we’ll also be able to work with doctors in the area so they can refer patients to us for procedures they can’t carry out but really do make a difference to people’s lives,” said Fiona.
