Innovative 3D software nominated for award
Two entrepreneurs, Rhys Jones and Phil Clothier, have been nominated for the Shell livewire award. Their business ClothierJones.com is an e-commerce site which aims to offer a platform for small British furniture designers to sell their unique handcrafted products online.
Rhys Jones spoke about his inspiration behind the business “The idea came about when I was looking for a chaise longue. I couldn’t find one I liked on the high street, but was then passed on the details of a great little workshop by a friend. It then came to my head “There must be hundreds of these little workshops across the UK , what if we could find a way to link these to a wider audience?”. It was one of those crazy “what if” moments you have that developed into a business”.
As part of the website, the pair have developed a new online technology which allows anyone to see the furniture in a high quality 3D model. Through this, people are able to see how a product looks by changing things like fabrics, legs or size and so on.
“We’re hoping to win this award so that we can develop a new version of this software specifically for Interior Designers. This market is worth £2 billion in the UK, winning this award would not only open up this market to Clothier Jones but also the many small craftsmen we represent”.
