Morrisons speed convenience foray with Blockbuster buy-up
Morrisons has fast tracked the roll out of its convenience store network, buying 49 of the shuttered Blockbuster stores from administrators Deloitte.
The supermarket announced it will make the stores part of its Morrisons ‘M’ convenience franchise.
Morrisons hope to open the stores by summer, and will eventually have around 70 M outlets in operation by the end of the year.
The grocery retailer has also bought a number of the closed Jessops stores for the same purpose and is hoping to break into the South East market with the new format.
The Financial Times also reports that Morrisons have acquired a 100,000 sq ft distribution centre in Feltham, London to service the network of new stores.
