Trafford Centre to change its name
Manchester’s retail figurehead, The Trafford Centre, will be renamed after its parent company posted a change of name on London’s stock exchange.
The shopping centre, which was opened in 1998, will be officially renamed as Intu Trafford Centre after owners, Capital Shopping Centres, became Intu Properties on Monday.
Capital Shopping Centres purchased the retail complex two years ago from property group, Peel Holdings, despite opposition from a minority of shareholders, for a total sum of £1.6bn.
The firm also part-owns the Arndale Centre in Manchester city centre, the Metrocentre in Gateshead and Lakeside shopping centre in Thurrock, Essex.
The Trafford Centre said it would be changing its signage after the name change came into effect on Monday.
