Opportunities for businesses at Spacetech 13

Tim Just has joined the list of speakers at Spacetech13 to explain to delegates how opportunities in space technology can mean big business.

Mr Just, Head of Space at the Technology Strategy Board, is the man responsible for helping the UK space industry grow from £9.1bn to £40bn by 2030 and will be providing businesses with an insight into what it could mean for them at Spacetech13. The one day conference, which is organised by Business Durham, the business gateway for Durham County Council, will be held on Thursday March 21 at the North East Technology Park (NETPark), County Durham.

The event is aimed at companies who are interested in exploring new and developing opportunities within the global space technology industry. Representatives from projects such as the European-Extremely Large Telescope and the Cherenkov Telescope Array will be on hand to explain their need for products and services and what this could mean for businesses. With such areas as structural engineering, communications and software development, electronics. site ground-works, concrete production and much more needed, attendees will discover there are huge opportunities in the space sector.

Mr Just said: “I’m looking forward to meeting the delegates attending Spacetech13 and giving them an insight into the Technology Strategy Board’s vision for delivering the growth of the Space sector in the UK, a sector that has grown by an average of 7.5 per cent year on year. We’ll also be showing how businesses can take advantage of the opportunities in terms of contracts and research that this growth provides.”

Mr Just joins an already world class list of speakers including delegates from Telespazio VEGA, the Cherenkov Telescope Array, the European Space Agency, The Satellite Applications Catapult Centre and NOVA, a US company involved with the Mars Curiosity Rover. The event will be chaired by UKspace, the trade association for the space industry.

Stewart Watkins, Managing Director of Business Durham said: “Spacetech 13 provides a fantastic opportunity for businesses across a diverse range of industries such as automotive, engineering, construction and software to come together and explore new opportunities in a growing market.

Business Durham is delighted to provide the platform for these businesses to engage and connect with the people leading these projects. I’m personally also thrilled that Tim Just has been able to join an already exciting schedule for Spacetech13.“

Cllr Neil Foster, Cabinet member for economic regeneration, said: “The continued success of Spacetech shows that NETPark in County Durham is developing into a major hub for exciting and innovative businesses. We look forward to welcoming experts on projects from across the globe who are eager to share their experience and knowledge with delegates.”
