Vela Group Opens First New Homes In Stockton
The Vela Group has officially opened its first £2m residential housing development in Stockton which has seen the construction of 19 high quality two and three bedroom homes.
The site in Parkfield Road, which has been regenerated by Vela, was officially opened by Tristar Homes Chairman, John McDougall. Alex Cunningham, MP for Stockton North, also attended the event to present keys to one of the first new residents.
Lucy-Anne Moore, 31, has recently moved into her new home, with young son Kian, 3, and daughter Kelsey, 11.
Lucy said: “I am delighted with our new home, it’s in a great location for us. I can’t thank everyone enough; it’s a fantastic start to the year for me and my children.”
The rented properties, to be managed by Tristar Homes which is part of the Vela Group along with Housing Hartlepool, were built by Partner Construction and supported by a grant of nearly £700,000 from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).
Previous to its transformation, the site was home to a former scrap metal yard, disused petrol station and garage repair shop.
Commenting on the new development, John McDougall said: “As the largest provider of homes across Stockton, Tristar Homes will continue to invest millions of pounds in regenerating neighbourhoods and building much needed affordable new homes.
“The Parkfield Road site is a key milestone of how we plan to move forward building these homes, whilst making a real difference to transforming areas across the Borough.”
Alex Cunningham added: “As part of the Vela Group, Tristar’s long term commitment to regenerating communities in Stockton will make a real difference to how local residents feel about where they live and work.
“The huge investment at Parkfield Road has also helped contribute to the revitalisation of what was an unsightly and disused area of land.”
All properties were built to comply with the requirements of the Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3, making them highly energy efficient as well as cheaper to heat and run.
The development, which was expected to be completed in March 2013, finished ahead of schedule at the end of January. All homes were made available for affordable rent and have now been occupied.
