Blyth Pupils Get Creative for New Showhome

Pupils from St Wilfrid’s Primary School are being given the chance to let their imagination run wild by North East homebuilders Dunelm Homes, with a special design project to shape the showhome of the newly launched Chase development in Blyth.

The Year 6 pupils have been chosen by Dunelm Homes to enter the exclusive competition to unearth budding design talent in the classroom with the chance to create their dream bedroom design for The Chase showhome – due to open in Spring 2013.

The pupils aged 10 to 11 years old brainstormed their ideas in a special two hour workshop organised by Dunelm Homes to learn more about what the winning bedroom design must include, and what additional extras they could add to make each room really stand out.

The workshop certainly brought out the creative side of the pupils with ideas ranging from a swinging sofa hanging from the ceiling, a TV entertainment system which incorporated everything from a playstation to a sweet dispenser and a bunk bed complete with a handy slide

Maureen Williams, sales advisor from Dunelm Homes said: “The workshop offered us the chance to work directly with the pupils to help them learn a little more about what it takes to design and construct a room from the ground up. We were hoping to hear ideas which really brought to life the hopes and wishes of the younger generation and what they look for in a bedroom and we certainly weren’t disappointed.

“We appreciate the opportunity to work with young people in the area as we help to build new communities and look forward to showcasing the creativity and inspiration of the pupils at St Wilfrid’s when The Chase showhome opens in Spring.”

The final designs will be presented in a mood board format to Dunelm Homes before the winning designer will have the opportunity to work hand in hand with an interior designer to turn their ideas into a reality.

Pauline Johnstone, head teacher from St Wilfrid’s Primary School said: “Our pupils have thoroughly enjoyed the chance to work on a real design project with a local company. This is a project which helps to partner education with local business in an exciting and interesting way and broaden our pupils’ understanding of not only the different types of careers available in design and construction, but also the process behind the building of new homes in the area.

“The pupils came up with some wonderful ideas during the initial workshop and are now hard at work creating their own bedroom which no doubt stretches the realms of imagination. The Chase is very close to our school so it is nice for our pupils to be directly involved in what is happening in the local community and we can’t wait to see the final bedroom design unveiled at the Dunelm Homes showhome in Spring.”
