NE ?techno-phobe? launches first app of its kind

A North Yorkshire businessman, who has never owned a mobile ’phone, has launched a unique, free app.

Steve Smethurst, from Reeth near Richmond, is one of the North’s leading business management experts with over 25 years’ experience. He now runs Reflex Training providing management coaching and consultancy for a range of UK-wide companies.

Despite being a self-confessed ‘techno-phobe’, Steve has spent the last two years developing iPrompt, the first app of its kind providing people-management advice.

And, despite only launching iPrompt on Monday (March 4th), it already has five star reviews and has been downloaded over 50 times by customers as far away as the USA.

Working with technical experts from Design 365 in Newton Aycliffe, Steve has brought together his many years’ experience to help business owners and managers who may not have the time or money to spend on courses and workshops.

The app, which is free to download from iTunes, gives practical advice on a range of aspects such as delegation, discipline, performance issues, motivation and behaviours and offers effective, proven results to help manage employees, clients and suppliers.

The aim of iPrompt is to provide managers with expert advice at their finger tips when they may need it the most.

The app provides a simple six-step plan for achieving a successful outcome in each of 10 popular people-management situations.

iPrompt provides a sequence of steps to successfully guide the user through any people-management interview, at a fraction of the cost of a traditional training course.

The sequences are designed primarily for managing employees, but they are also applicable to any other situation where achievements depend on the performance of other people.

There are a number of modules available with the first one being free.

Speaking about iPrompt, Steve said: “People can use the app whenever and wherever they choose via their phones or tablets so it’s great when travelling on business, for example. There’s no need to attend an expensive course or lug a huge book around. I am myself a techno-phobe so the idea of an app had never really occurred to me until I got talking to friends who suggested I compile my life’s experience. It has been quite a challenge!

“A lot of the advice is common sense but it’s all there at the touch of a button- everything from help with motivation and assertiveness to tips for dealing with difficult employees or clients. It’s a time and money-saving device which is free but if people want to learn more, it will cost them less than the price of a pint to download further advice and techniques.”
