New chief executive for NEP

The top social housing procurement organisation in the North East has acquired a new chief executive.

Phil Wise, who has been appointed as chief executive of North East Procurement (NEP), joins with a wealth of experience; ranging from strategy and product marketing with leading blue chip companies through to his previous position as managing director of a renewable energy installation business.

Since it was founded in 2007, NEP which is a not-for-profit business, has grown into an organisation managing procurement projects totaling around £50 million, working with 14 social housing providers across the North East who collectively manage over 220,000 properties.

Mr Wise who recognises several challenges and opportunities for NEP said: “Against a backdrop of financial constraint and as a procurement consortium, we must be more creative in our pursuit of continuing to deliver savings and positive social outcomes for our members, which will be aligned to how we provide services going forward.

“The challenges are there, such as delivering low energy homes for the same budget as traditionally built properties or ensuring employability opportunities in the construction sector whilst contractor’s budgets are tightening.

“However, to drive our vision forward we have the opportunity to embrace improved technology, funding sources whilst utilising new service delivery methods.”

Mr Wise plans to further build upon the solid foundations left by his predecessor, which includes the implementation of NEP’s award winning new build procurement framework, as well as its ECO proposition aimed at assisting members to access funding provided by energy companies to bring social housing up to a standard that further reduces carbon emissions and fuel bills for tenants.

Iain Sim, Chair of the NEP board added: “Phil was the unanimous choice for the chief executive position, his extensive experience made him the ideal candidate to lead NEP to the next stage in its exciting development.”

North East Procurement is a not-for-profit procurement consortium in the North East that aims to deliver sustainable efficiencies through collaborative procurement strategies.

As part of its commitment to social regeneration, the organisation has a unique social community fund - Future Sparks, which has invested over £930,000 to projects aimed at enhancing the lives of those living in the North East. Projects include community regeneration, employability courses and energy saving schemes.
