SIMULATING CHANGE: ART COMPETITION INSPIRED BY ENGINEERING

A Stockton-based engineering company are opening the doors to welcome young artists from around the region to get involved in an engineering-inspired Art Competition. The winners’ works will be displayed in the company’s new offices, and each winner will receive £75.00.

GSE Systems, an engineering and simulation business based in Stockton-on-Tees, are running an Art Competition for students aged 14 years and over in a bid to help them decorate their new premises.

GSE Systems relocated in December last year from their old office premises in Stockton town centre, to the prestigious Three Acres Business Park in Thornaby. The three-storey building boasts new on-site facilities, meeting rooms and training area specifically designed for the established business and its requirements.

The move is the latest in a series of business developments by the US-owned company. Following GSE’s acquisition of TAS Engineering Consultants in 2010, the UK arm of GSE Systems has successfully re-branded and is continuing a rigorous recruitment campaign to increase the depth of skills throughout the company.

The company now wishes to engage the local community to assist with the finishing touches to their new office location. Kristine Mohan, Sales & Marketing Manager for GSE explains, “The historical importance of engineering and innovation in the North East is something we’re very proud to be part of, and we have devised this competition to build on that history. We have a number of meeting rooms and shared spaces that have been named after notable engineering and scientific personalities, and we want to see what these figures can inspire in the talented students we have in our local area.”

GSE’s offices at Birch House have three client meeting rooms – namely Stephenson, Newton and Rutherford – as well as a stylish and sleek Boardroom and a bright and airy Reception. These five rooms require wall-mounted art work to fit in with each room’s theme, and a cash prize of £75.00 for each room will be awarded to local students.

Mrs Mohan added, “We enthusiastically support education and training in our everyday operations and have taken on two engineering apprentices in October 2012. We have strong ties with Strathclyde University in Glasgow where GSE Systems have a fully functional, hi-fidelity simulator, and we offer training services to clients in the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Process and Manufacturing industries. We hope this competition raises the profile of talent in our area, and are very excited to see what entries we receive.”

The art competition is open to any student aged 14 years plus, resident in the North East area. For more details of how to apply and the full competition brief, please contact Kristine Mohan, Sales & Marketing Manager at GSE Systems on 01642 613 622.

The closing date for all entries is Friday 10th May, 2013.
