Supply chains can keep provenance issues from heating

Recent packaging issues in the food chain should act as a warning to the heating industry to be vigilant in protecting itself against products which are not of the quality they purport to be, warns the Manufacturers’ Association of Radiators and Convectors (MARC).

New requirements coming into force this summer mean all towel warmers will have to feature a CE mark, which indicates they have been tested to EN442. However, MARC believes that some elements of the supply chain may choose not to conform.

John Colling, Chairman of MARC, said: “The good provenance of products for installation into homes across the UK should be protected for the sake of trust in our industry.

“The importance of accurate labelling has never been so high profile, as we hear daily about the scandal which has rocked the food retail sector. The issue translates directly to our industry, as we have previously highlighted, with products entering the supply chain with false claims on packaging.

“Unless we take a unified stance against such misleading or incomplete information on packaging, we risk disappointing consumers who lose out on warmth and efficiency, and the negative results are reflected upon our whole industry.

“If we allow products to come into our supply chains which do not meet the standards to which we all aspire, then we all suffer in the way that supermarkets have been as a result of the horse meet scandal.

“The incoming legislation only serves to further highlight the importance of verified quality in our products.”
