Health sciences firm looks to break NE markets

Middlesbrough-based business consultancy firm, DCB Ventures has been appointed by LGC Health Sciences to break new markets in the North East.

LGC currently employ over 2,000 people across different health disciplines and generate revenues of around £400m.

The LGC Health Sciences unit was launched in April 2012 and brings together the Group’s pharmaceutical, sports drug surveillance; and nutrition, food and consumer goods testing, under one brand.

DCB will help the firm to target North East and Teesside markets, where £12bn of annual revenues in chemicals industries could provide a lucrative business area.

While the Health Sciences team is based in Kent, managing director, Rich McLean, is originally from Middlesbrough.

He said: “Our highly skilled team provides high value, knowledge intensive services to a diverse range of clients. The key market segment for growth we have identified with the support of DCB Ventures is that of clients who are capable of investing significant sums into FTE contracts over two to three year periods.

“Working with Paul and his team we are confident that our plans for expansion will be realised in a relatively short time frame and we would hope to establish a business on Teesside within the next 12 months.”

Paul Weavers, director of DCB Ventures said: “We were aware of LGC and its huge potential for growth particularly in the health and pharmaceutical science sector. Our retained contract with the Health Sciences division has clear objectives and utilising our extensive and trusted business networks we will deliver a series of high level and effective introductions to targeted clients with a view to securing a minimum of three new contracts for LGC.”

Since its inception, DCB Ventures has delivered £5m worth of private investment, enabling clients to enter new markets across Asia and the US.
