Free webinar to explore values-driven leadership

Author and internationally recognised thought leader, Richard Barrett, is to host a special free webinar, exploring the issue of how to build a values-driven nation.

Richard is the founder and chairman of Barrett Values Centre (BVC) and his Cultural Transformation Tools are currently used in 60 countries by more than 4,000 organisations and leaders.

During the webinar, being held on 12 April at 4pm, Richard will share the findings of research conducted by BVC into the values and behaviours of people living across the globe.

Public confidence in political leaders and democratic institutions continues to decline, but with Western economies having some of the world’s oldest and most established democracies, why are citizens becoming increasingly sceptical about their politicians and less trusting of government institutions?

The answer, according to Richard, lies in a shift in values.

“Modern political democracies are built on power and authority, but citizens have moved on. They no longer want political agendas to be controlled by power-seeking political elites and political parties” explains Richard.

“They want a voice and to be part of the decision making that affects their daily lives. They want dialogue and they want to be heard. They want government to support them in satisfying their needs.”

Based on the results of comprehensive national studies conducted by BVC into the values of people living in over twenty-five different countries, Barrett believes a clear message is being sent to leaders. Citizens want their values - the things they consider most important - to be driving the national policy agenda.

Richard said: “The degree to which citizen’s needs are met, and the degree to which people feel happy, is not linked to the level of democracy, nor to the level of human development. It is linked to the character and quality of leadership, and to the amount of care and attention leaders give to meeting the needs of their people.”

Ahead of the webinar, participants are invited to view a recent talk delivered by Richard at The Institute for Values-Based Leadership, part of Royal Roads University in Victoria, Canada. A recording of the talk can be viewed by visiting http://livestre.am/4n9fV.
