Energy firm achieves top accolade

A Solar supply and installation company is celebrating after being awarded a top accolade for its quality management processes.

Home Solar Saver Co achieved ISO 9001:2008 within months of starting work to meet the stringent requirements of the internationally recognised standard.

The milestone is part of the 18-month-old County Durham firm’s plan to grow.

The company, which also helps SMEs reduce energy bills and manage energy effectively under its Re-Denergy brand, was set up by husband and wife team Ian and Lindsey Reed.

Ian, who has worked in the renewable energy sector for many years, said: “We were delighted to have achieved ISO 9001 in such a short amount of time.

“We wanted to achieve this before adopting the Government’s ‘Green Deal’ energy scheme which will require careful and planned management. Also, because the industry does not have the best reputation, we wanted Home Solar Saver Co to be a business that customers could trust.

“The decision to invest in ISO was to ensure that we deliver a recognised quality service and have correct processes in place to give confidence to any of our customers.”

Sue Cant, from business standards company BSI, which carried out the ISO certification, said: “I’d like to congratulate the team at Home Solar Saver Co. This significant achievement demonstrates the company’s commitment to employing and maintaining best practice management processes and a dedication to continual improvement.

“ISO 9001 is about ensuring a company puts effective measures in place to meet customer requirements. Gaining independent assessment to a recognized standard also gives all their customers peace of mind in the quality of the business.

“A lot of people think standards are for large, established businesses, but Home Solar Saver Co shows that even new smaller businesses can strive for business excellence and be rewarded accordingly.

“There are many benefits of securing ISO certification, particularly in procurement processes in the public sector and with larger organisations, where ISO is usually a pre requisite”

She added that BSI would continue to work with Home Solar Saver Co to ensure their high standards were being maintained.

Ian explained that the continuous monitoring of the business would ensure that the quality of service offered would be consistently high.

And he added that the next step in the company’s commitment for quality would be to deliver ISO 14001, which focuses on environmental management.

Ian said: “We’ll be looking at how we run our business in an even more energy efficient way. For example, the written warranties and guarantees that we must provide legally will be in CD form rather than in print to reduce the amount of paper and ink we use.”

Home Solar Saver Co and Re-Denergy design, supply and install solar PV and energy management systems that helps homeowners and small business bosses reduce energy bills.
