Bristol Street Motors supports electric car adaptation

Bristol Street Motors Vauxhall Newcastle has smashed its targets for sales of the electric-powered Ampera, thanks to a new offer which enables customers to get a free at-home charging point.

As well as the Government grant to pay 75 per cent of the cost of installing a home charger, the dealership, part of the UK’s seventh largest vehicle retailer, Vertu Motors, has been offering customers buying new Amperas the additional 25 per cent of the home charger cost, £2,000 worth of free fuel, and a fast-charge cable for when they’re away from home.

As part of the package, Bristol Street Motors has been offering customers also get three years’ free servicing, an eight year battery warranty and a lifetime warranty on the rest of the car.

Gateshead-based Vertu is firmly committed to helping people invest in eco-friendly vehicles and will be stocking the new model Nissan LEAF, which has just been launched by Prime Minister David Cameron, who visited the Japanese car manufacturer’s Sunderland plant last week to launch the new model.

What Car’s Green Car of the Year 2011, the Vauxhall Ampera qualifies for the plug-in grant because it is capable of travelling on purely electric power from a rechargeable electric battery for up to 60 miles, but unlike other electric vehicles, also has a small petrol engine for recharging the battery on the move, which extends the range to up to 350 miles.

The five-door hatchback also delivers around 40g/km of CO2 emissions, giving a fuel economy figures of more than 100mpg, and qualifying for free road tax.

Bristol Street Motors, part of the UK’s seventh largest motor retailer, Vertu Motors Plc, is leading the way in making electrical vehicles available to motorists with two of the UK’s 23 designated Vauxhall Ampera outlets.

The Government grant is part of a £37 million package of benefits to electric vehicle owners, which also assists local authorities in installing on-street charging posts and rapid chargers, and for train operators to install charging points for electric vehicle commuters at railway stations.

Will Smith, Vauxhall Ampera Specialist at Bristol Street Motors, said: ““Electric vehicles are spearheading the way for the low carbon revolution and this great package on the Ampera means that now is a great time to invest. The model also has the advantage that, unlike other electric vehicles, it has a small petrol engine which recharge the car on the move, giving it an impressive range.”
