Award-winning pharmaceutical company commercialise groundbreaking Alzheimer's invention

An NEPIC-award winning pharmaceuticals company have announced they are make a groundbreaking invention commercial.

Shasun Pharmaceuticals won an NEPIC Innovation award for their development of the manufacture of Huperzine-A, a substance that can improve the memory of Alzheimer’s patients.

The Indian owned company has substantial manufacturing assets and research and development capability in Dudley, Northumberland and has developed new technology to make the compound more commercially viable.

The company has announced that they have entered into a licensing agreement for the manufacturing and commercialisation of Huperzine-A.

The naturally occurring substance has been shown in clinical studies to significantly improve cognitive performance in patients with Alzheimer’s disease.

Huperzine-A is difficult to produce in commercial quantities, but chemist working in Cramlington and Chenai, India have developed new technology that could make the substance more commercially available.

Shasun Pharmaceuticals and Debiopharma Group have now announced that they have entered into a licensing agreement for the manufacture and commercialisation of Huperzine-A.

The compound will be made available in the pharmaceutical and nutraceutical markets.
