Website puts Heaton?s shops on map

Newcastle Business Forums (NBF) has been awarded funding by the South Heaton Ward Committee to administrate a £5,000 project to put the spotlight on Heaton, with a particular focus on promoting the retail offer of the Chillingham and Heaton Road areas. The funding was secured following requests from the South Heaton ward to create a focal point for promoting the area.

The volunteers at the independent not-for-profit NBF will manage the project with logistical and administrative support from Newcastle City Council. NBF’s first milestone has been to secure the support of renowned retail expert Graham Soult (www.cannyinsights.com) who will be providing advice and guidance to the project.

Sheila Walker, NBF’s Chairman said ’We are delighted that the funding has been secured and that Newcastle City Council have recognised that as an independent organisation, whose mission is ‘to make Newcastle a great place to be in business’ we are well placed to deliver’. Graham Soult added: ‘Across the country, lots of communities are using the power of the web to promote their areas as great places to shop, eat, drink and spend time. Heaton has some fantastic independent retailers, and this website will help local people and businesses by bringing details of all of those together in one place.’

NBF is now searching for web designers and developers to build the website. Further information, including budgets, can be found at www.newcastlebusinessforums.co.uk.
