Accountancy firm shows heart

A team of financial experts has shown heart after selecting a fellow Midlands organisation as its nominated charity of the year.

Harrison Beale and Owen (HB&O), which has offices in Coventry and Leamington, has selected the Heart of England Community Foundation, based in Coventry, as its nominated charity for 2013.

The Heart of England Community Foundation is Coventry and Warwickshire’s largest independent, local grant maker supporting a wide variety of community projects – ranging from sport to the arts – right across the region.

Established in 1995, the foundation awards grants in excess of £450,000 per annum, targeting the money efficiently to where it makes the most impact in grassroots communities.

Tina Costello is interim director at the foundation which supported over 200 groups and projects in the region during 2012.

She said: “We are delighted that HB&O has chosen us as its nominated charity for 2013.

“Securing the support of corporate organisations is crucial to the work we carry out, both in terms of raising finance and gaining recognition in the community.

“There is a huge emphasis on raising our own funds, particularly with public funding being squeezed, and we look forward to working with HB&O to generate the money needed to carry on delivering projects which make a real difference to communities in Coventry and Warwickshire.”

Phil Ewing, director at HB&O, was so impressed by the work the charity carries out he has now joined its board of trustees.

He said: “The decision to select The Heart of England Community Foundation as our nominated charity was an easy one.

“They serve Coventry and Warwickshire, just as we do, and the projects they are involved in supporting make a real difference to communities right across the region.

“We are extremely pleased to be able to offer our support to such a worthy cause and we look forward to working closely with them over the year.”

A number of fundraising events are being planned by HB&O to support the charity over the next 12 months.
