Growth figures need to breed confidence among SMEfirms
Mike Wheeler, founder of West Midlands-based auto accessory manufacturer Auto Styling Truckman, hopes the growth in the economy announced by the Office of National Statistics will help spread confidence among small and medium sized businesses.
The Brierley Hill-based company, which employs 30, is among the SME businesses that are playing a part in the growth of the economy. Auto Styling Truckman recently announced a £1million year-on-year growth in turnover to £6.2million for 2012.
The company, which manufactures hard top units for pick-up trucks and operates a vehicle accessory trade and retail operation, is now underway with its next stage of expansion with the introduction of an additional 15,000sq ft of manufacturing space and plans to increase its workforce by 50 percent.
Mike Wheeler, Managing Director of Auto Styling Truckman, said: “While some experts and politicians appeared keen to talk the country into a triple dip recession, business has proven that there is activity in the economy.
“While things are still tough, small and medium-sized businesses are delivering for the economy in terms of creating jobs and modest growth. In our business we have plans to increase our workforce and we are expanding our facilities.
“I hope this kind of confidence is infectious and can spread across the economy to encourage further growth away from recessionary conditions.”
