Britton to join world's sixth-largest plastics business

Winsford-based manufacturer Britton Group has announced it will merge with four plastic packaging giants owned by its parent company.

Britton Group was purchased by North American private Equity Firm, Sun Capital Partners in 2011.

The move will create what Britton called the world’s sixth-largest global plastics packaging company with 63 plants, over 8,500 employees and aggregate revenues of over $2.5bn.

The business will be joined by rigid plastic packaging firm PACCOR, flexible packaging company, Kobusch, and private UK label packaging business, Paragon Print and Packaging, as well as U.S.-based Exopack, which will be the name of the combined firms.

Marc Leder, co-chief executive of Sun Capital Partners, said: “This combination represents a natural next step in a process that began eight years ago to create a global packaging company with a solid foundation for future growth.

“Building on past collaborations between the companies, the combination will immediately achieve synergies and allow the Combined Company to more effectively pursue global business.”

Jack Knott, who will serve in the capacity of chief executive of the combined business, said: “By joining together to form this new entity, we will be better able to serve the needs of our global customers through a manufacturing base spanning North America, Europe, the Middle East and China that enhances our ability to deliver outstanding service.

“The larger scale will enable us to accelerate the development and commercialization of new and differentiated products that offer our customers a competitive advantage.”

Michael Cronin, who will join the team as chief executive of the Global Flexibles company, commented: “All five companies have achieved success by introducing market led innovations.

“We strongly believe that this combination will increase that capability by aligning the organization with how customers want to be served today and by working more closely and strategically as one.”
