UK first for north east bus operator

Go North East is the first transport operator in the UK to get rid of its mobile sites in favour of one fully-responsive website that scales up or down to suit any device it’s viewed on.

An 83% rise in people accessing its website and a 19% rise in those viewing it on mobile phones has driven Go North East to invest in a new, technologically advanced website.

The bus operator recorded 248,000 visitors to its simplygo.com website last month, compared to 136,000 in the same month last year. Forty-nine percent of its visitors are now viewing its site on mobile devices – up from 30% a year ago. And there has been a staggering 367% increase in visits to its site via social media channels.

The bus operator receives a significant number of requests each day for a range of information - from timetables and service changes to news on new buses. During the last period of snowy weather, there were almost 250,000 page views over a three day period.

The new website benefits from improvements in navigation, better search facilities and customer-optimised content. Many of Go North East’s tickets are now bought online or via its free M-Ticket app.

Stephen King, sales and marketing manager at Go North East said: “The statistics speak for themselves - they are telling us that our customers’ habits have changed. We’ve seen a huge increase in traffic and more people than ever are visiting our site whilst on the move. So we’ve responded by redesigning our website to meet customer need. The new site ensures we are making it as easy as possible for people to access information quickly, from any kind of device.”
