Ladhar create 40 jobs with Newcastle gin palace

One of Newcastle’s most historic buildings is being transformed into a contemporary gin and draft house by North Shields-based Ladhar Leisure.

‘Pleased to Meet You’ will open in the Grade II listed building that was formerly the Old Turks hotel and The Lane pub on High Bridge Street, and will create 40 jobs.

The bar will stock more than 50 types of gin, alongside a wide range of local and international craft beers, cocktails, spirits and hand-pulled cask ales paired with locally sourced food.

Work is underway to restore the restoring the façade which will open out on to the street with large bi folding doors and the inside is being completely redesigned, opening May 31.

Barry Ladhar, director of Ladhar Leisure, said: “We are very excited by the concept and we’ll have a few surprises in store for our customers.

“We want to complement the Grey Street area with a venue that combines both beautiful surroundings and a great selection of drinks, expertly served by down to earth knowledgeable individuals.”

Pleased to Meet You will feature beer taps at the back of the bar, leaving the front clear for staff to display cocktail skills.

The bar is the latest in a line of recent projects from the Ladhar business, including the transformation of Lady Grey’s and Redhouse.

Mr Ladhar added: “Pleased to Meet You will be opening alongside the Baltic art gallery and The Stand comedy club on Highbridge.

“It will be a captivating venue in a vibrant area. Whether you want a Gin cocktail with colleagues, bubbles with the girls or a pint of craft with your best pals.”

Ladhar also own several other pubs in Newcastle’s city centre, and around the country, along with care homes in Yorkshire.
