Architecture firm celebrates most popular BIM Show ever

A North East architecture firm has celebrated delivering the largest Business Information Modelling show to date.

_space group headed up the national event which attracted over 600 delegates and sponsors through its doors in London.

The firm’s BIM Technologies division led the BIM Show Live which was held over two days at Westminster’s Park Plaza.

Now in its third year, BIM Show Live promotes BIM via a variety of keynote presentations, industry panels and dedicated classroom sessions, often with an element of heated debate.

It provides the ideal opportunity for the UK BIM community to network, as well as gain a greater understanding of how it will affect the future of the construction industry.

And with attendee figures up by 200 following last year’s event, it has been the biggest and most successful BIM Show Live to date.

_space group CEO Rob Charlton said: “BIM Show Live is a great example of the North East exporting its skills to London – it’s a hugely successful event which was born in the region and now has a national profile.

“Not only has this year’s BIM Show Live been our biggest and most impressive delegate turnout to date, but we’ve already seen 60% of this year’s sponsors commit to supporting next year’s event.

“Construction has been particularly badly hit in the North and those of us based here need to be more willing to explore opportunities further afield.

“The North East is a centre of excellence in the UK and this event proves that we have the skills in the region and that there is an opportunity to promote this across the UK.”

The BIM Show was established by _space group in response to the lack of quality events for the UK’s practitioners of BIM , the production of design and production information required for buildings in 3D

Following a visit to the annual Autodesk University Conference in Las Vegas BIM.Technologies team felt there was an opportunity to bring a similar event to Europe.

Delegates at this year’s event were encouraged to use the Poken device – a new networking tool which enabled attendees to share business information simply by touching their devices together, seeing over 21,869 interactions recorded in less than 48 hours.

Event highlights included a series of built environment presentations from creative and tech savvy students as young as 14, who proved that embracing BIM can be easy if you have an open mind.

This year’s event also saw the introduction of ‘The Bimmy Awards’ which aim to honour those companies and individuals that have raised the bar of quality throughout the conference.

Rob said: “We’ve been completely blown away by this year’s attendance rate and, judging by the feedback from delegates, we have well and truly succeeded in doing what we initially set out to achieve.

“The event proved there is clearly still a lot to be learned about BIM and it has provided an essential vehicle for getting the industry talking and most importantly collaborating with one another.

“The team is already looking forward to next year’s event and is exploring ways of making it even bigger and better, so watch this space.”
