North East construction businesses invited to breakfast
North East construction related businesses are being invited to a special free ‘Meet the Buyer’ breakfast event being held at St. Joseph’s RC Comprehensive School, on May 17.
The hour-long breakfast gathering has been set up by South Tyneside Council in partnership with Willmott Dixon Construction.
Willmott Dixon has recently been selected by South Tyneside Council to work on two high profile projects in the Borough, the Hebburn Community Hub and the refurbishment of South Shields Town Hall.
The Council and Willmott Dixon are looking to use Friday morning’s event to engage with local construction companies about the varied range of sub-contract works and material supply opportunities that the two high profile schemes will be offering.
This is an ideal time for businesses to find out more information about the schemes, as the tendering process for both projects start this month. The Council is inviting companies to use the ‘Meet the Buyer’ event to register their interest, meet the project teams and take advantage of the support and training being provided by the Council’s supplier development programme.
Councillor Michael Clare, lead member Regeneration and Economy at South Tyneside Council said: “The Meet the Buyer event is a wonderful opportunity for local businesses to get involved in two exciting prospective schemes and network with other industry counterparts. The Council always looks to invite and encourage local companies to tender for contracts, as the Borough has a highly skilled workforce that is recognised across the construction industry.
“South Tyneside has many companies operating in the construction sector and the two high profile projects will be ideally suited for their expertise. The projects represent the Council’s vision for regenerating and rejuvenating the Borough, and having local businesses pitching for the contracts is of value to the local economy.”
Councillor Eddie McAtominey, chair of Hebburn Regeneration Board said: “It’s significant for the business event to be staged in Hebburn as it’s an exciting time for both residents and businesses of the town. Hebburn Community Hub symbolises all of the hard work being done by the Council and its partners to regenerate Hebburn.”
“I expect this development to provide an exciting focal point for our town centre which will generate much more investment in the future.”
