Respected insurance professional takes over reins at Henderson's

Henderson Insurance Brokers has appointed an experienced and dynamic insurance industry professional to the role of Managing Director.

Steve Barrett, 56, has been appointed to head up the company’s broking division. He will sit on the Henderson executive board and will report directly to CEO Joe Henderson. Mr Henderson will in turn focus more on the company’s other businesses, including Contractsure Limited, Henderson Risk Management Ltd, Henderson Employee Benefits Ltd, UK Credit Insurance and Henderson Surety.

After a career involving 18 years with the Prudential and just over 20 years with Aviva (where he was Business Manager responsible for both Leeds and Newcastle), Barrett is delighted to have been given the opportunity to use many of the skills he has picked up in a corporate environment in the more entrepreneurial world of insurance broking.

Mr Barrett, a family-orientated man with four grown up daughters and four recent grandchildren, said: “I felt that I had given Aviva all I could and that I needed a change of direction. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and left on the best possible terms.”

Initially looking for a career break, Barrett was overwhelmed by the interest shown by the broking market in acquiring his services.

He added: “In reality, once Henderson’s had put their hat in to the ring, there was only one destination for me. I had worked successfully with Joe and his teams over the last dozen years with the stand-out feature being that everything Henderson’s said they would do they delivered on.

“Henderson’s are a company where the customer is at the heart of the business and this in turn has resulted in the diversity and strength of the brand”.

Henderson’s trade out of eight locations and Mr Barrett will work closely with the managing directors of these locations to improve operational efficiency taking advantage of the unique opportunities that the Henderson structure brings.

Henderson Insurance Brokers Chief Executive Officer Joe Henderson said: “Steve has vast experience of working at the coal face in the insurance broking industry. He built up a solid background and reputation in the independent insurance broking industry.

“Steve’s appointment will further help to build the reputation and reach of the company’s broking operations and I am delighted to welcome him to the team.”
