PopUp Britain to Launch Camberley Pop-Up

PopUp Britain has announced it is to open its newest pop-up shop for start-ups in Camberley, Surrey, next month.

The shop will be the sixth outlet opened by the campaign in under 12 months, with more in the pipeline over the summer around the country.

PopUp Camberley will open on June 5 in The Mall, a shopping centre owned by Capital & Regional, to a mixture of local and UK-based retail start-ups, giving them their first taste of the high street.

Emma Jones, StartUp Britain co-founder, said: “Following on from the successful launch of PopUp King’s Road last week, we’re keen to keep up the momentum of openings.

“PopUp Camberley is our second outside London and our first in a shopping centre. We are looking forward to helping yet more retail entrepreneurs onto British high streets.”

The pop-up shop will run for six weeks and every two weeks new retailers will take space. It has the capacity to house six start-ups at a time, co-working and co-funding the unit.

The campaign is also working with the National Skills Academy for Retail to create a pop-up boot camp ahead of the Camberley opening. The boot camp will give new candidates an introduction to the retail landscape that will help them make the most of the experience as well as benefit their online business long-term.

Mark Bourgeois, managing director for shopping centres, Capital & Regional, said: “The retail landscape is changing, traditional lease lengths are getting shorter and the provision of pop up stores are becoming increasingly popular as landlords work to ensure they are best using their space and meeting evolving customer demands.

“Capital & Regional is at the forefront of these market changes and trends and that we are the first shopping centre landlord in the UK to adopt the PopUp Britain initiative is testament to this.”

The shops reflect the trend that more than 60% of businesses are now started and run from home by people with a passion for what they do. According to research out this week, 95.5% of all British businesses are micro businesses, employing 7.8 million people and contributing 20% of private sector turnover.

The pop-up shop will open at the centre on 5 June.
