Warwickshire MP backs region’s manufacturing
A Warwickshire MP has urged the region’s manufacturers and engineers to come together to help drive forward the economy.
Chris White, the MP for Leamington and Warwick, has agreed to speak at a major event organised by the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce on Friday, May 24.
The breakfast event – ‘Masterclass – Supporting Manufacturing & Engineering’ will take place at the new Computing and Engineering Building at Coventry University, and also brings together EEF, UKTI and MAS.
Mr White is the co-chair of the Associate Parliamentary Manufacturing Group and he believes the Chamber network – which has been established for many years – is the ideal platform for manufacturers and engineers to share best practice and drive each other on.
He said: “Supporting manufacturing is one of my top priorities and our region has its roots in world class engineering.
“But it’s not just our history, it’s our future too because we have to rebalance our economy towards manufacturing and engineering.
“I am delighted to see the Chamber and organisations such as EEF, MAS and UKTI all coming together in this way – to drive forward manufacturing and engineering in Coventry and Warwickshire and to offer complete support to the sector.
“I would urge companies to make the most of this first event since these bodies came together and to find out more about this exciting partnership.
“I am pleased to be speaking on the day and I do hope to see many of our wonderful businesses there too.”
Topics on the day will include: City Deal, the Manufacturing Advisory Service, Engineering Employers Federation and Supporting CW Manufacturers & Engineering Companies.
Speakers will include Paul Noon, the regional UKTI director; Richard Halstead, from EEF; Lorraine Holmes from MAS; and Louise Bennett, of the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce.
Bennett said: “It is great to have the support of Chris White and to see that manufacturing and engineering is starting to get the recognition it deserves in Westminster.
“Bringing partners together in this way means we have a strong support network for our manufacturers and engineers and we can continue to push the cause of the sector and help companies to drive themselves and the regional economy forward.
“We are very much looking forward to this event and we are hoping to attract companies of all sizes to really make a genuine difference to manufacturing and engineering on our patch.”
