Butchers to cook up feast for charity

ONE of the North East’s longest established family butchers is hoping to make a sizzling success of a charity BBQ event to support regional charity Daisy Chain.

Blackwell’s Butchers, of Norton village near Stockton, will host a special event to mark National BBQ Week, with proceeds going to Daisy Chain, which supports families with Autism in the region.

The butcher – that has been selling the finest-quality meats for over 50 years – will also launch a new customer loyalty scheme on the day of the event that will also raise funds for Daisy Chain.

For every customer that joins the loyalty scheme in June, £1 will be donated to support the vitally important work of Daisy Chain across the North East.

Blackwell’s is aiming to raise in excess of £1,000 for the charity through the fundraising drive and the BBQ on Friday 31st May.

As well as sampling home-cooked burgers and a variety of different flavoured sausages, attendees to the BBQ will also have the chance to meet Daisy Bear, the charity’s mascot.

Anna Blackwell, assistant manager of Blackwell’s, said: “We chose to support Daisy Chain because they are a local charity, they have some fantastic facilities in Norton and they are a huge support to lots of families in the local community who have children with Autism.

“Everyone loves a BBQ and it’s a great opportunity to celebrate quality local produce and to support the smaller high street butchers. It’s also a good opportunity for us to showcase our own homemade products which are all made from 100% British and local produce.”

The new customer loyalty scheme will give customers points for every transaction which can be redeemed for money off items on future transactions. The cards can also be pre-loaded and used as a saving club for Christmas or as a gift card.

Blackwell’s sources all of its produce from local farmers and suppliers and offers only the highest-quality service, advice and products.

It recently installed a rotisserie oven that cooks fresh chickens daily which, unlike those found in many supermarkets, aren’t chemically enhanced.
