Morgan Sindall wins £27m Bournemouth regeneration contract
North West infrastructure firm Morgan Sindall has secured a £27m contract to deliver part of a £40 regeneration project in Bournemouth.
A public-private partnership between Bournemouth Borough Council and Morgan Sindall Investments Ltd has been formed, called The Bournemouth Development Agency.
It will work with Morgan Sindall to deliver key aspects of a Town Centre Vision involving land owned by the council.
Three blocks of student accommodation will be built on a section of the Madeira Road car park as part of an £18m contract, which will house 378 students for the Arts University.
A multi-storey car park will also be constructed as part of the site renovations.
Morgan Sindall will deliver a further £9m scheme for a five-storey block of 64 apartments at Leyton Mount, along with a 3,120 sq ft commercial building for a cafe or restaurant.
Paul Gale, area director for Morgan Sindall, said: “This regeneration project is an important investment in the future of Bournemouth and will increase the town’s commercial infrastructure and residential provisions, providing a vital boost to the town in a variety of ways.
“The additional student accommodation will help to attract more UK and international students to this vibrant and dynamic town, and the attractive new apartments will increase the number of people living in the town centre.”
“This in turn will bolster the local economy and bring in additional revenue for the area’s businesses. Morgan Sindall always looks to support the communities in which it builds and are committed to appointing a number of local sub-contractors throughout the lifetime of the project.”
These two developments will be the first carried out by The Bournemouth Development Agency, following consultations, exhibitions and planning permission approval in autumn 2012.
A total of 17 sites have been set aside for development through the partnership.
